Eichler Calls for Calm, Equality in Beit Shemesh

Member of Knesset Yisrael Eichler called, on Sunday, for a unification of peaceful forces against the backdrop of reports of hareidi violence against others in the city of Beit Shemesh, west of Jerusalem. Speaking at a hearing of the Knesset Economics Committee regarding planning, construction and housing policy in Bet Shemesh, the United Torah Judaism lawmaker said all persuasions should be allowed to buy homes wherever they want in Israel, including setting up neighborhoods in Beit Shemesh.

At the same time, he said, nobody has the right to negate the right of the hareidi community to buy and organize in the city. He called it a local political matter in which was aimed at promoting bad blood against the hareidim; an effort to divide Jews that should not be allowed.
