Controls Threatened on Airport Currency Exchange Fees

Chairman Carmel Shama-Hacohen of the Knesset Economic Affairs committee threatened, Sunday, to impose statutory limits on fees for currency exchange at Ben Gurion Airport if the fees jump.

The Likud lawmaker's warning came at a committee hearing on the matter, prompted by a report that the Airport Authority cancelled the maximum-fee clause in the tender to provide change at the airport. Shama-Hacohen expressed concern that the authority was hoping to collect higher rents with the winner of the bid passing the costs to the customers in the form of higher commissions.
