IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz was meeting Sunday morning with top military brass to plan Israel's response to the ongoing rocket fire from Gaza. Southern Israel suffered a heavy barrage of missiles early Sunday; since Saturday afternoon, some 50 Grad missiles, Kassam rockets, and mortar shells have been fired at Israeli targets.
Egyptian officials said earlier Sunday that they had been unsuccessful in persuading Gaza terrorist groups, especially Islamic Jihad, to stop their attacks on Israel. Nevertheless, IDF sources said that there were “advanced efforts” to bring about a ceasefire, with the help of “international assistance.”
