High Court Allows Real Resignations

Justice Chanan Meltzer of the Supreme Court ruled, Thursday, that the government and medical interns should continue talks regarding the residents' dissatisfaction with the way they are treated in the latest collective bargaining agreement between the state and the Israel Medical Federation. Speaking in response to a petition by the interns to overturn a National Labor Court ruling invalidating their letters of resignation, Judge Meltzer welcomed the intent, in principle, of the two sides to keep talking, and told them to report back on their progress in two weeks, at which time he will rule on the future of the case.

The judge said, "An intern who sincerely wants to resign, on an individual basis, from his job at a hospital, will be allowed to do so."
