Finance Ministry officials revealed offers made to medical residents in a press conference Tuesday, as residents went to the Supreme Court seeking approval for a mass resignation. Officials said they had offered a salary of 150 shekels an hour for work done after 4p.m. at public hospitals – but that residents had refused, not wanting to give up the chance to do after-hours work at private clinics or hospitals.

“The residents’ behavior undermines the foundations of democracy,” accused Ilan Levine, director for salaries in the national Treasury. “If there is anarchy, it will be hard to create solutions.”
