Turkey Rejects All Aid Offers

The government of Turkey announced, Sunday evening, that it was rejecting offers of assistance from dozens of countries in dealing with a 7.6 magnitude earthquake that killed an estimated 1,000 people in the eastern part of the country, Sunday afternoon. The Israeli government and the military were prepared to send humanitarian aid, and the ZAKA emergency service was ready to send volunteers to add their expertise in the search for people lost in the rubble of collapsed buildings.

Despite an announcement rejecting the Israeli government assistance earlier in the evening, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu expressed hope to visiting New York mayor Michael Bloomberg that Turkey would accept Israel's offer, as Israel accepted Turkey's assistance during last year's Carmel Ridge Fire.
