President Shimon Peres offered his Turkish counterpart, Abdullah Gol, condolences and assistance, Sunday evening, following an earthquake and a series of aftershocks, on Sunday, that killed an estimated 1,000 people in the eastern part of Turkey.

President Gol thanked Peres for the gesture, adding that Turkey was measuring the damage and that he hoped Turkish personnel could handle the rescue efforts.
