Police Confirm Many Galilee Fires Were Arson

Police on Sunday confirmed that a string of fires in forests in the Galilee were in many cases “almost definitely”set by Arabs seeking to do damage to Israel's natural resources. At least 30 fires were set on Friday and Saturday, and over the past week several dozen other fires were set, causing the destruction of hundreds of dunams of trees.

Officials said that it was possible that some of the fires were set by Arabs “celebrating” the release of over 1,000 terrorists in exchange for Gilad Shalit last week. With that, police said that evidence shows that some of the fires were set by campers and hikers who were careless in dousing campfires.
