Ronit Tamri, a Jerusalem resident, on Sunday filed a petition with the High Court demanding an injunction against the release of 29 of the over 1,000 terrorists to be released in exchange for Gilad Shalit. The petition states that the terrorists in question had “too much blood on their hands” to qualify them for release, and include terrorists involved in the murder of IDF soldier Nachshon Wachsman and the terrorists who carried out the terror attack at Cafe Hillel in Jerusalem in 2003. In her petition, Tamri asks the court to require the state to “specify why it is surrendering the defense of its citizens, children and infants by releasing murderers,” and whether the state can guarantee the safety of its citizens in the wake of the release.
Also filing a petition against the release are members of the Schijveschuurder family of Neria, five of whose members were killed in the 2001 attack at the Sbarro pizza shop in Jerusalem. Among those to be released in the Shalit deal is Ahlam Tamimi, who drove the terrorists to the site of the attack. She received life in prison for her role in the murder of 15 people in the attack.
