35 Female Security Prisoners Up for Release

Jacqueline Fararja, an attorney for a Palestinian Authority prisoners society, said, Wednesday, that 35 female detainees would be released among the 1,027 security prisoners to be freed in exchange for abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, according to the Bethlehem-based Ma'an news agency.

Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal gave a figure of 27 during an overview of the deal. Fararja said that while 27 were sentenced to jail terms, five others were detained without charge and three others were being held under administrative detention, which allows prisoners to be detained for six months at a time during investigations.
