The first phase of the deal to release abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit will be carried out on Tuesday, according to the London-based Arabic newspaper Al-Hayat. Shalit will be sent to Egypt, then Israel and 450 prisoners will be released from Israeli prisons.
Senior Hamas member Salah Al-Bardawil had told the Hamas website that the deal would be executed Monday or Tuesday at the latest. He said preparations were being made to carry out the deal and give the prisoners to be released a heroes' welcome. He added that Hamas got 95 percent of what it wanted.
