Tel Aviv Judge Resigns over Tax Evasion Allegations

Judge Dan Mor of the Tel Aviv Magistrates Court announced, Monday, that he was stepping down after Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein gave the police approval to investigate Mor on allegations of tax evasion.

A random review of the tax file of Mor's son led to suspicions that rental income from 2006-2007 was reported as the son's when it was really paid to the judge. The police have questioned Judge Mor as a suspect rather than the Tax Authority to avoid the appearance of impropriety due to what is perceived as a "murky relationship" between the judge and the authority, based on his rulings. A Tax-Authority panel will decide if the judge pays off the liability, estimated at 212,000 shekels, as well as the exact amount.
