Use of Diesel for Electricity Doubles

The National Infrastructures Ministry released statistics, on Sunday, showing that the amount of diesel fuel used to generate electricity rose 103 percent during the first eight months of 2011, compared to the same period last year.

While the ministry cited a number of reasons for the increase, the main one was the interruption of natural gas service from the Sinai pipeline. The spur serving Israel and Jordan has been sabotaged eight times.
