Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon conducted a tour of the Gilo neighborhood of Jerusalem with international journalists, Sunday afternoon, in the wake of criticism by the United States and Germany over the approval of new housing units there as an obstacle to new talks with the Palestinian Authority (PA). Ayalon explained that Gilo was at the heart of Jerusalem, adding, "I propose that the Palestinians stop looking for excuses and sit down with us for negotiations with no preconditions."
The Yisrael Beitenu lawmaker continued, "It's not a matter of timed construction. Gilo - like any other neighborhood in Israel - is being built according to the needs of the local authority and the population. They have built in Jerusalem, they are building in Jerusalem and will continue to build."
