Vice Prime Minister Silvan Shalom said Tuesday that Israel might have to launch a ground invasion of Gaza.

"The continual attacks on the communities of the south, for over a decade, are unbearable," he told journalist Yosef Evron, "and should they be renewed, we must put an end to it once and for all."

"Today  it is not just Kassams being fired at Sderot and the Gaza Belt, but much more lethal missiles that can reach Be'er Sheva and even more distant communities in central Israel," he noted. "We must do all that we can, including ground invasion, targeted killings and damage to infrastructure, in order to defend the communities under attack and bring back the deterrence that we seem to have lost."
