Yitzhar Yeshiva Group to Appeal Funding Cuts

Representatives of the Od Yoseph Chai yeshiva in the Samarian (Shomron) Jewish community of Yitzhar said, Tuesday, that they will petition the Supreme Court against any decision by the Ministry of Education to cut funding based on a recommendation by the Shabak Israel Security Agency (ISA). The Ha'aretz daily reported, Tuesday, that the request was made a few weeks ago, when Shabak representatives accused students at the yeshiva and its Dorshei Yehud'cha yeshiva high school of violent, illegal activities against area Arabs and Israeli security forces.

Attorney Yitzchak Bam, who represents the institutions, said the only name the ISA could provide of a student engaged in illegal activity has been dismissed from the school for behavior problems. He added, "We hope that the Ministry of Education will exercise independent judgement and not act like a puppet of the Shabak."
