Rabbi Metzger: Soldiers Can Leave When Females Sing

Speaking Monday, Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi Yonah Metzger said that it was the right of IDF soldiers not to be forced to listen to female singing during the course of their service. Rabbi Metzger ruled that soldiers who preferred not to listen to female singing should be excused on halachic grounds. The rule applies to both individual female singers of groups of women singing together, as well as to a man and woman singing together.

The IDF generally accepts the halachic decisions of Chief Rabbis regarding the rights and obligations of religious soldiers, although it is not required to.
