An Egyptian diplomat interviewed on Israel Radio's Arabic service said that Cairo was very interested in restoring relations with Israel, after an Arab mob trashed the Israeli embassy in Cairo and forced the diplomatic staff to flee for their lives. The diplomat said that Egypt was working very hard to capture suspects in the incident, and that a number had been caught and would be put on trial.

The diplomat said that Egyptian officials were interested in restoring the embassy or finding a substitute as soon as possible, so that the Israeli ambassador could return.
