Netanyahu Accepts Quartet Initiative

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu (Likud) is expected to convene his inner cabinet to discuss the Middle East Quartet initiative to renew talks with the Western-backed Palestinian Authority towards an Israeli surrender of its disputed heartland, Israel Radio reported on Saturday.

Netanyahu initially acquiesced to the Quartet proposal and said his government is willing to sit down with the PA according to the parameters set out by the international community.

The Quartet on Friday called on Israelis and the PA to return to the negotiating table based on a new time-line, by which a final agreement on Israel's surrender of the Judea and Samaria regions would be reached by December 2012.
