Group: Don't Approve 'Grunis Law'

The Movement for Quality Government asked Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin and Chairman David Rotem of the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, Thursday, not to approve an amendment to the law on the appointment judges that would eliminate a ban on a judge becoming president of the Supreme Court before serving three years on the High Court. The bill has been nicknamed the "Grunis Law" because it would make Justice Asher Grunis eligible to succeed Dorit Beinisch, when she retires, in February.

The committee passed the first reading of the bill by a margin of three-to-two on Wednesday.
