Minister of Science and Technology Daniel Hershkowitz called on Wednesday to find the middle ground on the issue of female singers and religious IDF soldiers.
Speaking to students in Kiryat Gat, Hershkowitz said: “The IDF must allow each religious soldier to maintain his lifestyle in accordance with halakha. However, we should know that according to many rabbis there is no impediment to hear women singing through a sound system.”
“Just as one is no exempt from the requirement of hearing the Megillah if it is sung into a microphone, so there is no prohibition to hear a woman singing through a microphone,” he added. “Therefore one can and should find a middle ground on the issue.”
