As part of his address to the 66th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, United States President Barack Obama called on the UN Security Council to impose sanctions against the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria.
"The Syrian people have shown dignity and courage vying for values that this institution is supposed to stand for," he stated, saying that Washington has sanctioned the Syrian regime but that this step was not enough.
