U.S.: Jewish Activists Arrested in UN Protest

Six Jewish activists were arrested in the United States on Tuesday as they protested near the United Nations. They were detained after blocking traffic in a protest against the Palestinian Authority’s bid for UN recognition as a state, and against the UN’s decision to give a platform to extreme anti-Israel leaders such as Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Among the detainees was Rabbi Avi Weiss, who was recently listed as one of America’s most influential rabbis. “If the New York City police really ‘got it,’ they wouldn’t be arresting us who represent the Jewish voice of consciousness and those who speak truth to power, but they’d be arresting Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who is guilty of murdering countless numbers of his own people and who threatens genocide against the Jewish state,” Weiss declared.
