Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Tuesday that while Israel "offers a hand to peace" he is "determined to insist on our interests" when he speaks at the United Nations.
Netanyahu was speaking with Likud Knesset members at a pre-Rosh HaShana toast, shortly before boarding a plane to the United States. "I think we should go there and present our truth," he explained. "[The truth] of a nation that is attacked again and again by those who object to its very existence. This is the most basic truth."
Netanyahu said negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority need to begin, but that "We do not want a piece of paper but a true peace that will hold up and not fall apart before it is signed."
