Cyprus on Monday began exploratory drilling off its coast, searching for oil or gas offshore. The drilling is taking place in the waters off the south of the island nation, in order to ensure that there is no dispute with either Turkey or Lebanon.
Turkey has threatened to send warships to stop Cyprus' drilling, claiming that the drilling is a violation of Turkish-occupied northern Cyprus. The European Union has sided with Cyprus' project and told Turkey to stop threatening Cyprus.
