Israel Loses to Canada in Davis Cup Qualifier

Vasek Pospisil of Canada defeated Amir Weintraub of Israel 6-2, 7-6, 6-4 victory in the deciding singles match, Sunday, to give his country a 3:2 victory in a playoff for the 16-country World Group in the Davis Cup tennis championship. Pospisil had a hand in all three Canadian wins, defeating Israel's top-ranked Dudu Sela and teaming with Daniel Nestor to beat Andy Ram and Yoni Erlich.

Sela beat Peter Polansky in Sunday's other singles match to set up the Pospisil-Weintraub match after Milos Raonic was forced to pull out of the tournament. Israel, which lost to Spain in the 2009 World Group semifinals, will renew its efforts to return to the elite group via the European-African zone next year.
