The government on Sunday authorized the candidacy of Yoni Ben-Menachem for director of the Israel Broadcasting Authority. Officials said that Ben-Menachem was likely to be approved ultimately as appointee for the job. A Knesset search panel last week decided to recommend Ben-Menachem for the job, after several questions posed by the Shpenitz Committee on public appointees were settled.
Ben-Menachem is one of Israel Radio's most experienced political correspondent, and for five years was managing director of Israel Radio. He was the first Israeli reporter to interview Yasser Arafat, an interview that took place before the signing of the Oslo Accords.
