Hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside Israel's embassy in Amman, Jordan, Thursday evening in an apparent bid to lower the Israeli flag, replace it with a Jordanian flag, and call for the facility's closure. At least one response to the Facebook-organized demonstration called for burning the embassy down.
An estimated 1,500 Jordanian security troops are in the area in an effort to avoid a repeat of Friday evening's takeover at Israel's embassy in Cairo. Streets leading to the embassy have been blocked off. Israel has expressed confidence in Jordan's ability to handle the situation. The Jordanian Foreign Ministry cited Israel for not informing Jordanian officials about Israel's evacuation and closing of the embassy Wednesday evening.
