Samaria regional authority head Gershon Mesika said after the sentencing of the murderer of the Fogels that "the proper response is not necessarily the death sentence but a proper Zionist response of establishing five Jewish communities in Samaria – one community for every murder victim."

"It is not certain that these barbarian murderers will be deterred by the death sentence," he explained, "but if the terror is intended to drive away the Jewish nation from its land, the creation of five new settlements in Samaria in memory of the slain victims is the correct answer and the efficient one, too – this is how Zionism has always acted."
