UN: Source Syrian Death Toll Hits 2,600

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said, Monday, that at leat 2,600 Syrians have been killed since the outbreak of anti-government demonstrations six months ago, citing "sources on the ground". The figure presented to the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva was 400 higher than the figure presented in August.

Reuters reported that an advisor to Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad reported, earlier in the day, that about 1,400 people had died, split about evenly between police officers and civilians.
