Chief rabbis Shlomo Amar and Yonah Metzger raised a number of concerns when they hosted Chief of Staff Benny Gantz of the Israel Defense Forces on Sunday. Rabbi Metzger told Arutz Sheva that their main concern was the ousting of cadets from an officers' course because of their refusal to listen to a woman singing, in accordance with a ban under Jewish law. He said that the rabbis asked the lieutenant-general to take the seriousness of the ban into consideration and not force soldiers to violate the basic law.
Regarding the deceit used by troops in the demolition of homes in the Binyamin-region Jewish community of Migron, Rabbi Metzger said that once the decision to evict has been made, it must be carried out in a dignified way and not a harmful way. A release from the IDF only mentioned the security briefing the rabbis received and their expression of chagrin over the "price tag" vandalism perpetrated against the army base between the Samarian Jewish community of Beit E-l and Ramallah.
