Israel remembered the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, Sunday afternoon at the Twin Towers Memorial in Jerusalem. Israeli citizens Alona Avraham, Leon Lebor, Shay Levinhar, Daniel Lewin and Haggai Sheffi were among the more than 3,000 Americans and others who lost their lives that morning.
Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon told those in attendance, "Israel, which has unfortunately known all too well, the terrible price that terrorism inflicts upon individuals and society, stands with America in its continuing battle for Democracy and Freedom. Know that we are at you side as you defend the core values of our civilization and pursue, in righteous anger, those who would destroy our lives and our societies." He also thanked U.S. President Barack Obama for his role in the evacuation of Israeli diplomats and personnel from Cairo, following Friday night's attack.
