Residents of the Jewish hilltop communities around the Samarian Jewish community of Itamar breathed a sigh of relief, Thursday afternoon, after the Israel Defense Forces, including those of the Civil Administration for Judea and Samaria left the area without executing any demolitions, according to the Tatzpit documentation unit of the Legal Forum for the Land of Israel. It was reported, Thursday morning, that large forces of soldiers and police, accompanied by bulldozers, were headed to the area.
Area residents were prepared for the authorities to set their sights on the outpost community of Gal Ari, home to two families and a number of single men, which was erected after the murder of five members of the Fogel family of Itamar. There is also a synagogue and one of Itamar's security cameras. The report drew a number of people to the scene, but they left after it became apparent that the forces and equipment were intended for the destruction of wells in a nearby Arab village. One of the activists was not convinced, explaining that bulldozers were not needed to destroy wells. A Gal Ari resident credits the arrival of activists for the military's going elsewhere.
