Peres to Belgian PM: Expand Scope of Trade

President Shimon Peres told visiting Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme, Sunday evening, that the Israel and Belgium must develop trade in areas other than diamonds. Peres noted that Belgium is Europe's second leading trade partner with Israel, but that 70 percent of the four-billion dollars in trade between the two countries is tied to the gems.

One of the purposes for Leterme's visit was to examine cooperation in economic and technological fields. He noted that his country, like Israel, is growing and weathered the economic storm of a couple of years ago relatively well but wants to learn from Israel.
