Sharp Losses for Tel Aviv Stocks


Most of the indices on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange recorded sharp losses, on Sunday, following the downturn in international markets on Friday. The TA composite index fell 3.89 percent to 964.39. The Maof 25 most-widely-invested issues finished the first day of the trading week at 1082.47, down 4.39 percent, and the TA 100 fell 4.05 percent to 976.28

Worst hit was the banking sector, which fell 4.58 percent to 1,053.23, as part of a 3.5 percent drop by the financial institutions to 967.39. The biomed issues got off relatively lightly, closing at 677.12, down 1.95 percent, while the other technology stocks fell 3.62 percent to 245.39. The oil and natural gas issues finished the day at 1,022.22, down 3.16 percent and the media/communications index declined 2.75 percent to 831.07.
