Report: Motorized Parachute in Development

A motorized parachute developed by Elbit Systems and the Israel Defense Forces Technology and Logistics branch is entering a new stage of development, according to the latest Bemachaneh military magazine. Major Yoseph Shani of the Parachute and "Climbing, Gliding and Rescue" Equipment Department in the Technology and Logistics Branch says the goal is to reduce the risk to pilots and crew of unprotected aircraft over enemy territory.

The propeller-driven "Flying Elephant" is designed to carry up to a ton of supplies to forward lines and evacuate casualties in all kinds of weather and all types of terrain. The first prototypes are expected within two years.
