Firefighters were able to douse a major fire that broke out on the Golan early Wednesday. The fire, which broke out Tuesday morning, destroyed thousands of dunams of forest and green areas. The flames of the blaze came uncomfortably close to houses on Kibbutz Mevo Hama overnight, and members of the kibbutz came out to help fight the fire. The blaze also threatened to engulf a known minefield.
The fire was finally brought under control with firefighting planes. Mevo Hama residents were asked to remain in their homes Wednesday morning because of the heavy smoke in the area.
