The Agriculture Ministry has issued a reminder to the public to be careful with netting intended to keep pigeons and other birds out of areas where they are not wanted. The goal of the warning is to prevent birds from getting trapped and dying. The ministry said hard netting, such as chicken wire, should be used instead of soft netting, such as nylon.

The reminder was prompted by an incident last week by an incident at a gasoline station at the Re'em Junction in central Israel. Birds were able to enter the roof through a hole in the netting designed to keep them out, but the hole was not big enough for the birds to get out. Ministry officials, with the assistance of the gasoline company, were able to rescue the trapped birds.
