Beit Shemesh: Final Approval for Major Project

The regional planning committee has given its final approval to a building plan that will see 1,800 new apartments built in the city of Beit Shemesh.

In its decision the committee took Beit Shemesh residents' complaints into account, and determined that the new neighborhood would include more cultural and sports-related attractions than previously planned. In addition, the committee required the city to build streets in the area.

The new neighborhood has been the focal point of controversy, as some non-hareidi residents see the hareidi-religious community as trying to take over the new project.
