Member of Knesset Nissim Ze'ev (Shas) said, Sunday, that the organizers of the high-profile social protests of recent weeks are only interested in toppling the government of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and are not interested in solutions to the problems. Interviewed on Arutz Sheva's Hebrew journal, Rabbi Ze'ev stressed that the housing and price crises needed to be addressed.but the people behind the protest are not hurting.
In his fourth Knesset term, Ze'ev said Netanyahu was looking for solutions and should be given the 60 days he asked for. He added that while Israel was a capitalist country, there was room for some socialism in the form of price controls. As for overtures by Labor Knesset Member Amir Peretz to back up coalition threats by Shas leader Eli Yishai, Ze'ev said he had not heard anything formal yet, although he felt the Finance Ministry is standing in the way of a number of causes that Shas is advancing.
