Code Red Sounded - Gazans Shoot Rocket into Israel

The "Tzeva Adom" Code Red early warning alert system sounded late Saturday night as Gaza residents fired a rocket into Israel. The past month has seen a sharp increase in the number of rocket attacks. The rocket hit an open area of the Ashkelon Coast Regional Council area. There are no known injuries or damage at this time.

The short range rockets are often called Kassams, named after Izz ad-Din al-Qassam, a Syrian leader who led riots against the Jewish communities in the land of Israel in the 1920s and 1930s. He also organized riots in Syria and Libya.
