Rabbi Tomer Rotem, a Chabad-Lubavitch emissary in Ecuador, was taken hostage for ransom, but was released. The captor demanded a ransom of $450,000.  News of the kidnapping was placed under a gag order, which was lifted this past Thursday. The rabbi was released without being harmed, and without paying the ransom. The kidnapper was arrested.
