South African Police Protect Israeli Group

South African police kept 27 Israeli postgraduate decree holders from demonstrators who awaited them outside the airport on Thursday. The police took the delegation out the airport's back exit.

The delegation arrived on a mission organized by the What is RAEL Facebook group of Israeli students promoting dialog to counter the University of Johannesburg's declaration of an academic boycott on Ben-Gurion University and South African clergyman Desmond Tutu's labelling of Israel as an apartheid state. Among their activities is a march on behalf of abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.
