Among MDA's recommendations: Avoid unmarked trails and riverbeds, which may be dangerous. Avoid swimming without a lifeguard. Time hikes for the cooler hours of the day, bring water, and make sure children wear hats and sunscreen. Bring as much water as possible when hiking.
