Rabbi Ariel: Tisha B'Av – a Day of Hope

Tisha B'Av is a day of sorrow, but also a day of comfort and hope, Rabbi Yaakov Ariel said Tuesday, speaking to Arutz Sheva's Hebrew-language news service. “It is this day, the saddest day of the year, that is also a day of comfort – we do not say the Tachanun prayer because [Tisha B'Av] is called 'moed,' and our sages have explained that this means a festive day,” he said.

“The people of Israel see the destruction of the Temple as the end of a difficult chapter, and the beginning of the construction of a new Temple,” he later added. “We are told that on the day the Temple was destroyed, the Messiah was born.”
