Report: Fisher Considering Lowering Interest

Governor Stanley Fischer of the Bank of Israel is considering lowering the rate the bank charges commercial banks, according to a Tuesday report by the Calcalist (Economist). It would be the first lowering of the prime rate since April 2009.

The business publication says that if the debt and credit crises in the United States and Europe continue and nervousness in the world's capital markets does not, Fischer will recommend a quarter of a percent lowering of the rate in about two weeks, when the September interest is announced.
