Tisha B'av Begins Monday Night

The Jewish people mark 1,943 years since the destruction of the Second Temple Monday night, as Tisha B'av gets underway at sundown. Eating, drinking, and bathing are forbidden until past sundown Tuesday. The day is marked by the reading of the Book of Lamentations (Eichah) and the recitation of kinot, compositions describing the suffering of Jews in the exile over the past two millenia.

The fast begins in Jerusalem at 7:33 PM, and ends at 7:57 PM Tuesday night.
