The Mekorot Water Company on Monday signed an agreement to with the government to set up a water desalination plant in Ashdod. The work will be carried out and managed by Mekorot's development subsidiary.

When this plant is finished, it, along with four other already existing plants, will be the main supply of water for households in Israel. The Ashdod plant itself will supply 15% of that water.
