Ramadan Brings Increase in Cattle Rustling

The Israel Beef Cattle Growers Association says that Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which began last week, has been accompanied by cattle theft from all the farms in the country. At the beginning of the week, a gang of cattle thieves from the Palestinian Authority village of Idna, in the Hevron Hills, was caught red-handed. Another six gangs have been caught by Border Guards.

Executive Director Chaim Dayan of the Cattle Growers Association said the rustling efforts are big. sophisticated and, unfortunately, often successful. At the same time, he added, the Border Guards have had their share of successes in catching the gangs which, he said, was difficult because of the gangs' criminal organization and professionalism.
