The IDF will place an Iron Dome anti-missile defense unit in the Ashkelon area, in light of the increased tension in the south, Defense Minister Ehud Barak told government ministers at Sunday morning's weekly meeting. Barak said that over the past week, some 6 or 7 Kassam rockets had been fired at Israel by Gaza Arab terrorists – mostly from Islamic Jihad – but that there had been little damage, and only one injury. Israel responded appropriately to those attacks, he said.
Barak said that Israel was not interested in increasing tension in the area, but that the IDF was on guard to prevent terror attacks – both those committed with rockets, and others that were constantly being attempted “in an underground manner,” Barak added.
